Principles For Christian Liberality Referenced in “A Beginner’s Guide To The New Testament” By William Barclay
- Giving for a Christian is nothing less than an obligation. (Romans 15:27; Galatians 2:10)
- In giving love is turned into action and stops being mere words. (2 Corinthians 8:8)
- Giving demonstrates the unity of the church. A unity in which it is impossible for some to have too much while others have too little. (2 Corinthians 8:10-15)
- Giving should be proportionate to a person’s resources. We are asked out of our surplus to help those who have nothing at all. (1 Corinthians 16:1-2) (2 Corinthians 8:12-15)
- Giving should be willing and joyous. It must be universal and not left to the few. (2 Corinthians 9:6-11)
- Any gift to the poor is a thanksgiving to God. No one can show gratitude to God better than helping God’s children. (2 Corinthians 9:12)
- The sight of such generosity and sense of responsibility for others is a powerful commendation of Christianity and brings glory to God.(2 Corinthians 9:13-15)
